The Use of TikTok in Learning English Vocabulary at SMP Negeri 4 Pekalongan

Abstract


Vocabulary is an important aspect of English learning because it helps students understand and use language effectively in communication. However, many students still face difficulties in learning vocabulary through conventional methods. Therefore, this research aimed to investigate the use of TikTok in learning English vocabulary among seventh-grade students. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach to explore students’ perceptions and experiences regarding the use of TikTok as a learning medium. The data were collected through interviews and questionnaires and analyzed descriptively. The findings showed that TikTok helped students improve their vocabulary learning through short and engaging videos, repeated exposure, and interactive features such as subtitles and replay. Most students also had positive perceptions toward TikTok because it increased their motivation and interest in learning English vocabulary. The novelty of this study lies in its focus on junior high school students’ experiences in using TikTok for vocabulary learning.
