The Influence of Supervisory Practices and the Leadership Style of the Ma'had Director on the Discipline of Ma'had Students at Ma'had Al-Jami'ah, UIN Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi

Abstract


This study aims to analyze the empirical effect of supervisory patterns and the leadership style of the Head of Ma'had on the discipline level of mahasantri at Ma'had Al-Jami'ah Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sjech M. Djamil Djambek Bukittinggi. Ma'had Al-Jami'ah as a religious education institution holds a highly strategic role in fostering character, spirituality, and student discipline. This study adopted a quantitative approach using a survey methodology. The research population encompassed all mahasantri residing at Ma'had Al-Jami'ah UIN Bukittinggi during the odd semester of the 2025–2026 academic year. Data collection was performed through structured questionnaires distributed to respondents, which had been previously tested for validity and reliability. Data analysis was executed using inferential statistical analysis with multiple linear regression techniques to evaluate both partial and simultaneous effects. The partial analysis findings indicated that the supervisory pattern applied by the Head of Ma'had exerted a positive and significant effect on mahasantri discipline (r = 0.631, p = 0.002). Furthermore, the leadership style demonstrated by the Head of Ma'had also had a positive and significant effect on mahasantri discipline (r = 0.680, p = 0.000). Simultaneously, the integration of supervisory patterns and leadership styles generated a highly substantial effect on mahasantri discipline (R = 0.834, R2 = 0.696, p = 0.000), accounting for 69.6% of the variance in discipline levels. These findings confirm that optimizing student character building within higher education dormitories demands a harmonious synchronization between structural control and humanistic-spiritual leadership approaches.
